What your coffee says about you

Your next cup o' java may spill the beans about your personality, experts say. How you take your coffee can expose your self-esteem, stress levels and even offer a peak at your sex life, says the new book The You Code by Australian body language experts Judi James and James Moore.

"(People) usually begin by arguing they're not as described but then colleagues/family/friends pitch in to let them know they are," says James, who came up with the coffee preference idea by spending huge amounts of time in coffee houses. "Many people have said they found (the book) spookily accurate."

The book covers hidden meaning behind the other choices from favourite TV shows to the type of handbag you carry -- even to the choice of stuffing in your turkey. According to James and Moore, the decaf soy milk drinkers are a bunch of self-righteous eco-worrier and attention seekers. They have a tendency to be picky, fussy and squeamish in the bedroom. Yikes!

The latte drinker is an urban fashionista or teddy bear enthusiast. Latte drinkers are buddy pleasers with an irresistible obsession for other's admiration. A latte-sipping boss will use a childish voice to tell you "you are fired!" says the book.

The "no frills" java or black coffee drinker are survivors and take a direct approach to life.

According to the authors, those who don't like cream or sugar in the mix can be calm and moody, but prone to brief jitters of what is outside the self. "A difficult but potentially rewarding friend, colleague or partner," they advise.

Like their drink, cappuccino fans are all froth and bubble, lacklustre by detail and are not materialistic. The cappuccino drinker enjoys sex but at the same time, is easily bored by a dull partner.

The instant coffee drinker is a jovial, straightforward type, who likes a chuckle or two and lives by the maxim "if it ain't broke, why fix it" to the point of laziness, James and Moore say. They are also likely to keep their socks on during intercourse.

The frappucino drinker is erratic and superficial, but will try anything once. The frappucino drinker's relationships often last as long as their drink of choice, according to James and Moore.

The espresso drinker -- a beverage the authors describe as the "filterless cigarette of the coffee drinking universe" -- are likely to be moody, hard-bitten and hard working. Espresso fans can be skilled, stimulating and accomplished lovers, but are not loyal.

As for the non-coffee drinker, a fear of coffee equals a fear of life. If a caffeine fix puts you off, you really are a child. Join the world of grown-ups and get brewing, conclude the authors.

At the end, James is quick to point out that the book should be read and taken lightly.
